Donnetta Bishop-Johnson, owner of the Allegra School of Music and Arts, founded the Hillsborough Music Festival in 2009 to celebrate New Jersey's diverse and eclectic performance community, and promote the arts in Hillsborough, NJ and surrounding areas. In 2010, following the tragic suicide of her 17-year-old son Jonah, the mission of the festival was expanded to raise funds for youth suicide prevention and mental health awareness, a cause that touches us all.
The proceeds from this event and other related fundraising campaigns go directly to My Son Your Daughter, The Jonah Johnson Youth Scholarship Fund, which is dedicated to suicide prevention and anti-violence educational organizations in our local school systems. The charity also provides funding for public school arts education and scholarships in the arts for post-secondary students.
